ABOUT CHRISTIE

Christie Newsom, PT, DPT, CMPT, SMT

Christie received her undergraduate degree in Cardiac Rehab from Central Michigan University and received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Pacific University in 2002. She relocated to Maui after graduating and met her local boy husband shortly thereafter. Christie owned and operated Kihei Physical Therapy from 2005 to 2023. She opened another office in Kula in 2012 after her son was born and has most recently decided to sell the Kihei location and focus on her hometown location in Kula.

In February 2020, Christie became a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) through North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). She subsequently followed her teacher Erl Pettman to Aspire Manual Therapy and in 2022 received her certification as a Spinal Manipulative Therapist (SMT) , the highest standard in credentialing for manual therapy therapists.  Prior to that, Christie has taken Women's Health classes with Herman and Wallace as well as APTA.  She also has taken Active Release Technique classes as well as Muscle Energy for Pelvis and Sacroiliac dysfunctions.  She has been a member of APTA since 2002 and the Hawaii chapter of the APTA since 2003. 

Christie is a hobby fitness enthusiast and certified in many modalities: STOTT Pilates Mat and Reformer Instructor, Johnny G SPIN Instructor and BeachBody PiYO Certified Instructor as well as TRX Certified Instructor. She loves to integrate fitness into her wellness plan. Before her son was born she enjoyed participating in Cycle to the Sun, several olympic distance triathlons and continues to participate in road running races offered on island. These days she can be found dabbling in low impact strength-based core training to keep up with her son, husband and Frenchie!
